2022 SOUTH ALABAMA FOOTBALL PREVIEW
The 2022 South Alabama football preview can be found below at College Football Today & ESPN Plus and was brought to you by Scout Trout Elite.
SOUTH ALABAMA FOOTBALL
The South Alabama football team was established in 2009 and has sadly not produced a winning season since the program's inception. They were competitive in their second year of existence in 2010 and the Jaguars managed to finish the season 6 & 6, as well as bowl game appearances in 2014 & 2016. The Jaguars were a dreadful 9 & 26 under Coach Steve Campbell from 2018 to 2020, but appeared to have made major strides last season, as South Alabama was able to finish the season 5 & 7 in Coach Kane Wommack’s first season as head coach. Coach Wommack lost some key players from a team last year that was extremely competitive against the likes of frequent top 25 programs Coastal Carolina and Louisiana, but has filled in many missing pieces through his vast recruiting network and the transfer portal.
2022 USA JAGUARS FOOTBALL
The 2022 USA Jaguars football team will have some pretty big shoes to fill on the offensive side of the football with the departure of Dallas Cowboys 3rd round selection wide receiver Jalen Tolbert and will look to Jalen Wayne to provide the big plays down the field that made Tolbert a sure fire NFL Draft pick. Wayne was able to haul in 53 receptions last season for 630 yards & two touchdowns, as teams across the Sun Belt focused primarily on the All-Time leading receiver in South Alabama football history. The question still lingers on who will be starting quarterback for the Jaguars this season as last year's quarterback Desmond Trotter and Toledo transfer Carter Bailey both have impressed the South Alabama coaching staff during spring ball. The defense returns 2nd & 3rd team preseason Sun Belt All-Conference selections CB Darrell Luter, FS Keith Gallmon and DT Wykevious Thomas, who all bring a wealth of experience to the 2022 Jaguars defense. The kicking game will once again be anchored by Sun Belt preseason All-Conference selection Diego Guajardo, who is 26 of 35 (74.3%) on field goal attempts for his career.
